The Satu Mare County Library is an important cultural, information and personal development center, memory preservation and local identity promotion, socialization accessible to all.

The staff of the library provides quality services in line with the needs of the local and county community, making full use of the space in which they operate and all the financial, material and logistic resources at their disposal.

The library performs specific functions with multifaceted tasks and activities in the fields of information, documentation, research, reading, assimilation of IT technologies, communication, socialization and leisure, as well as educational and cultural-artistic activities. In fulfilling these functions, the Satu Mare County Library works with the local and county public authorities.

The Satu Mare County Library has approximately 450,000 documents that are made available to users through the Public Relations Service both at headquarters and at the three subsidiaries located in the largest neighborhoods of Satu Mare.

A special fund is the Special Collections and Heritage Fund. The library holds 5 incunabula, the oldest, Decretum Gratiani from 1846, published in Basel, being unique in the country.

The Biblionet service with free Internet access can be accessed both at headquarters and at subsidiaries 2 and 3.

The most important cultural, educational and informational events organized by the library are: "The Satu Mare Editorial Year" 19 editions, "Pedal for the library", 6 editions; Motivational Conferences for Youth "BookLand Evolution"; Confessions of the scholar; Marathon of Stories "; "Read and pass on book exchange"; "Nocturnal Libraries"; "National Libraries Week"; "School of Good Manners"; "Holliday at the Library" "An Hour of Story"; quilling workshops, origami and shadow theater; "Carrols at the Library"; numerous photo-documentary exhibitions, book launches and presentations, events dedicated to the International Day of Child Protection, National Day of Romania, National Culture Day, as well as homage or commemorative events in honor of local historical and cultural personalities, etc. At events organized last year, 10,527 participants were registered.

More than 30 studies and articles were published in Satu Mare magazines ("Eroii Neamului", "Cultural Testimonies", "Satu Mare, Studies and Communications"), but also from outside the county: "The Library" "Certamen" (Society of the Transylvanian Museum in Cluj-Napoca), "Transilvania" (Sibiu), "Libraria" (Târgu-Mureş), "Flowers of Lily" (Şimleu Silvaniei), "Acta Mvsei Porolissensis", "Caiete silvane" Zalău).

Taking the role of methodological for libraries in the county public library system, part of the institution's activities are aimed at providing advice to public librarians in the county in order to support the information and knowledge circle dedicated to professional training, the dissemination of examples of good practices and encouraging library activities and services. In this respect periodic visits are made to the public libraries in the county, aiming, among other things, on the unitary implementation of the library legislation and the methodological and biblio-economical norms.

At the same time, many Satu Mare librarians have received support in their relationship with local authorities in promoting professional degrees and / or stages, recognition of the social importance of the profession and promotion of professional rights.

More than 3,000 people - librarians from public libraries, as well as members of the local and county community - benefited from facilities provided by the library in 2017 attending colloquia, seminars, professional workshops, free English courses and financial education, as well as other forms of professional and personal development.

The relationship with the media can be characterized by appreciative words, the projects, programs and events initiated by the Satu Mare County Library being widely publicized, both in the local and regional media, as well as by some radio stations with national coverage. The library's representatives participated in numerous interviews and radio or television shows.
