ASTRA County Library of Sibiu, Romania is one of the most appreciated public institutions at regional and national level. It promotes education, knowledge and culture, being a source of encyclopaedic as well as specialized information. The library is subordinated to the local public administration answering the needs of local and county communities. Its primary objectives are to form, organize, process, develop and preserve various collections of books, publications, specific documents as well as data bases and make them available to the public. Librarians have a key role in disseminating information. They develop activities related to research, formal, non-formal and informal education and recreation activities. They are the ambassadors of reading, studying and learning permanently promoting the library services such as access to special collections, electronic resources, reading and study rooms, lending of materials available, research and digital assistance concerning library collections, digital printing services, interlibrary loan. Children, teenagers, adults, seniors and students have access to books, periodicals, newspapers, manuscripts, old books, maps, CDs, DVDs, cassettes, vinyl records, videotapes, blu-ray discs, audiobooks, e-books or Braille materials. Conferences, courses, workshops, contests, reading clubs, exhibitions, book launches, jazz and classical music events are currently on the library’s cultural agenda. The library policy includes a transversal approach of different categories of users encouraging solidarity, tolerance and interdisciplinarity in order to endorse authentic cultural values. ASTRA County Library of Sibiu, Romania offers services that bring into focus and sustain communities, lifelong learning, creativity, advanced knowledge and research. It establishes connections and creates bridges between cultural actors, educational promoters, content creators and the business environment.
