The Public Library of Gdynia is a place where everyone is welcomed. We believe that library is not only about books but also about people that's why we are actively engaging people of every age to take part in our cultural events and become a constant visitor of the library. Now, we have 20 branches over the city where life is saturated with lots of educational, cultural programs including various types of art, theater workshops, library lessons, summer and winter classes, games with PlayStation Move and other innovations. In addition, we organize meetings and interviews with authors, travelers and artists to share their work experiences and have discussions with the public. The library is an active participator of cultural life in Gdynia in general.

The Public Library of Gdynia has founded in 1935 and it has already 83 years old. In its collection, there are nearly 400,000 items, including books, audiobooks, e-books, and games. Besides traditional collections, as the library is one of the most important buildings in TriCity, we are keeping updated our branches with new e-books, comics, book-toys and equipment like 3D printers, board games to entertain and to teach our visitors.

Gdynia is a seaside city which means that we emphasize the summer activities near the beach during all season, most popular programs are  "Summer reading room" (PrzystańKsiążki) during this program people on the beach are able to take a sunbath and take a book from our open-air library to read,  "Library bike" project when librarians bring bookcrossing books and everyone has the opportunity to read or exchange the book.

The public library organizes a nationwide campaign for librarians from all over the parts of the country and the remarkable one is  “Kierunek-Wizerunek" conference which has been launched  4 years ago and has continuous. The project lasts 2 days and during this period we focus on topics such as "Communication and teamwork", problems that affects on library internal communication, employees competences, lack of awareness of the common purpose of the library's activities. The “Kierunek-Wizerunek" also touches to "Me in Library", where we focus on personal development of librarians.  After we want  participants to answer to questions like was it useful and innovative, were the learning methods relevant, did they achieve professional satisfaction and so on.

The Library also cooperating with worldwide known Erasmus+ volunteering program and provides a volunteering opportunity to young leaders from all over the world. The maximum duration of this program about 1 year and during this period volunteers can work in the marketing department, library branches and be involved in many kinds of activities in areas such as youth work, cultural activities. The main idea to let people from other countries know about the city and its history and make an intercultural society.

Volunteers are able to organize their own projects, have language lessons, cultural events, concerts, and the library is always happy to support their bright ideas.

The newest branch of the Library "Z Pasja" (with Passion) offers a range of educational and cultural events, it's equipped with new board games and supplies which we use during the workshops and other activities. It is focused on how to understand and satisfievisitors needs. Librarians create an interdisciplinary and creative team trying to identify problems and solve them. Meetings with authors, concerts, workshops, games, and other entertainments are happening regularly.

The main purpose of the Public Library in Gdynia is about actively communicating with people and promote the reading and self-education, keep them updated about important cultural events and help them to be active participants of the city life.

In this way library also providing access to Polish and world science and culture, creation, and dissemination of knowledge and building a civil society.
