My Parenting Diary in the US

On August 18, Multicultural Ambassador Dong Xin shared her parenting experience in America with HPL users.

Eight year ago, Dong Xin settled down in Boston area with her husband. She had worked as an editor in education publishing field as well as a teacher in a local public high school since then. More importantly, she has become a mother of two daughters. After so many years, she began to have some new understandings about parenting and education.

Dong Xin shared five stories happened in their daily life between her and her children and indicated the importance to treat children as individuals. Besides, she recommended several books about parenting such as Your Child’s Self-esteem, Growing Up Brave, How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk, etc.

In the end, Dong Xin ended the salon with a piece of poetry On Children by Kahlil Gibran.
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thought
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their soul
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
Which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
