On June 29, an event focused on classical Chinese was taken place in Hangzhou Public Library. Columbia University professor Shang Wei, media professional Jin Guang and avant-garde Chinese teacher Guo Chuyang were invited to have a discussion towards it from every aspect.
Professor Shang Wei specializes in pre-modern Chinese literature and culture, especially fiction and drama of the Ming and Qing dynasties, whose research interests also include print culture, book history and intellectual history of the same era. His book Classical Chinese for Children was published lately which aims to let readers get the aesthetic feeling of classical Chinese rather than literally understanding it with the help of modern Chinese translation.
The event was cohosted by HPL and Columbia Alumni Association Hangzhou. A Book Donation Program was also launched on the spot by Columbia Alumni Association that appealed to its alumni donating books to HPL.
