“The Image of the West Lake: Exhibition of Books Donated by Hangzhou Public Library” Successfully Held at USA Indianapolis Library


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

On 9th May, the opening activity of “the Image of the West Lake: Exhibition of Books Donated by Hangzhou Public Library” was successfully held at USA Indianapolis Library. All of 100 Chinese books and Chinese-English bilingual books exhibited were donated by Hangzhou Public Library. These finely selected books covered such six themes as performance art, calligraphy and painting, literary works, musical instrument, industrial art and urban development. It provided a very fine platform for the citizens in Indianapolis to know Chinese culture and get knowledge of Hangzhou. 
 

As one of important cultural exchange activities of “Hangzhou of China: the celebration for the literature, cultural sharing and people exchange with the sister city” specially for Indianapolis to celebrate the 5th anniversary for establishing the sister city relationship with Hangzhou, the donated book exhibition has won great importance from the local government and was popular among local citizens. Greg Ballard, mayor of Indianapolis, made an address for the grand opening ceremony, nearly 400 guests came to the book exhibition and browsed these books. In addition, these books have been incorporated into the retrieval system of Indianapolis Library for more overseas readers to acquire relevant information conveniently. The donated book exhibition would last up to 28th July.
 

Hangzhou Public Library and Indianapolis Library have established the friendship since 2011 and started to implement the project of mutual book donation. Presently, Hangzhou Public Library has established the special shelf for the books donated by Indianapolis Municipal Library. Meanwhile, to further promote cooperation and realize joint development, it would start to implement the librarian exchange project in order to enhance mutual communication and promote cultural exchange between these two countries.
