In recent period, at “Sino-US Sister Cities Conference 2014” held in Washington, USA, “Indianapolis Impression Exhibition 2013” jointly sponsored by Hangzhou Public Library and USA Indianapolis-Hangzhou Sister City Association won the best innovation prize. Chu Shuqing (director of Hangzhou Public Library), was invited to attend the conference and participate in the prize granting ceremony.
Sino-US Sister Cities Conference 2014 was jointly sponsored by USA International Sister City Association and Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and was the first large-scale commemorating and summary conference that was jointly held by both countries and provinces/states and cities of both countries jointly participated in during the communication history of Sino-US sister cities. At the conference, such nine prizes as the long-term cooperation prize, individual contribution prize, youth exchange prize, cultural exchange price, economic and trade exchange prize, the best innovation prize and so on were granted to 34 pairs of sister provinces/states and cities and four individuals, commending their outstanding contributions in relevant fields for promoting exchange and cooperation among Sino-US sister cities.
“Indianapolis Impression Exhibition 2013” winning the prize at the conference was an exchange activity presented by Hangzhou Public Library with the friendly cooperation relationship established with USA Indianapolis Library and with joint efforts by USA Indianapolis-Hangzhou Sister City Association. In the activity, with such ways as picture show, theme salon, theme book exhibition and so on, representative elements, scenes and atmosphere of Indianapolis (with the reputable name of “city of sports”) were implanted to Hangzhou, endless fancy of Hangzhou citizens for such sister city was fully excited. The activity was an international cultural exchange activity oriented for ordinary citizens in Hangzhou, and was also a meaningful commemoration for the 5th anniversary for both cities to establish sister city relationship.
The prize winning also fully showed the positive role of Hangzhou Public Library to promote the international cultural exchange for this City, it was a new platform and new knob for this City to exploit the international cultural exchange channels.
