Theme: “Library as the social education center”
On morning of 19th November 2012, it was bright autumn day with gentle breeze in Hangzhou City. “The International Academic Symposium for Services of the Public Library, School Library, Non-governmental Library and Social Education” jointly held by Hangzhou Public Library and USA Evergreen Education Foundation was solemnly opened at the lecture hall of Hangzhou Public Library.
Such leaders as Liu Xiaoqin (counsel of the Department of Public Culture of the Ministry of Culture), Chen Xiaoping (vice mayor of Hangzhou City), Dai Yan (chief of Social Culture Division of Zhejiang Provincial Culture Department), Niu Jun (director of Hangzhou Municipal Culture, Broadcasting and News Press Bureau) and so on, such senior experts of the library circle at home and abroad as Zhao Yaoyu (chairman of USA Evergreen Education Foundation), Wu Weici (director of China Library Academic Research Committee), Li Guoxin (standing vice director of China Library Academic Research Committee and vice director of the Public Culture Service System Building Expert Committee of the Ministry of Culture), Wu Xi (standing director of the Library Society of China), Zhou Deming (vice director of Shanghai Library and the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of Shanghai), Molly Raphael (chairman of American Library Association (2011-2012)), Marcia Warner (chairman of the USA Public Library Association (2011-2012)) attended the symposium. Such more than 10 media as Xinhua News Agency, Guangming Daily, Wenhui Daily, Shanghai Daily, Hangzhou Daily, Qianjiang Evening Newspaper, Dushi Kuaibao, Hangzhou TV, Zhejiang TV and so on conducted spot interview and report.
The opening ceremony was jointly presided by Mr. Chu Shuqing (director of Hangzhou Public Library) and Ms. Zhao Yaoyu (chairman of USA Evergreen Education Foundation). Huang Kunming (an alternate member of the Central Committee of CPC, a member of Zhejiang Provincial Party Standing Committee and the secretary of Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee) and Mr. Zhou Heping (director of the National Library of China) sent their congratulation letters. Ms. Liu Xiaoqin (counsel of the Department of Public Culture of the Ministry of Culture) made address at the conference. Mr. Chen Xiaoping (vice mayor of Hangzhou Municipal Government) made the welcome address, and expressed ardent welcome to Chinese and foreign guests and friends on behalf of Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Hangzhou Municipal Government and congratulated the conference to be successful in advance.
