On 2nd August 2011, led by the vice director Zhou Shu, the Library was lucky to participate in talk with Mr. Paolo Sabbatini, Chief of Cultural Division of Italian General Consulate in Shanghai. In talk, Wu Yulin, vide director of the Foreign Exchange and Research Division, on behalf of the Library, introduced the following conditions to Mr. Paolo Sabbatini, such as the profile of the Library, foreign cultural exchange carried out among the Library and such foreign institutions stationed in China as USA Consulate, UK Consulate and so on, establishing friendly and cooperative relationship and jointly developing public library business with libraries from such countries as Ireland, Australia, Russia and so on and plans and expectations related to cultural exchange among China and other countries and so on.
Mr. Paolo Sabbatini recognized the rich and effective external cultural activities and open & inclusive development concepts of the Library. Mr. Paolo Sabbatini expressed that, he was very interested in cooperating with the Library to hold exhibition and sponsor lectures for introducing such information as culture, language, studying abroad, migration and so on related to Italia. In addition, Mr. Paolo Sabbatini expressed, they were preparing to build a memorial for Marco Polo in Hangzhou presently, and hoped to obtain cooperation of relevant literature from the Library. With the talk, it has provided new contents and opened the new channels for the Library to further promote international and cultural exchange.

There were more than 18,000 person-times of readers coming to the Library on weekends during the summer holiday.
The summer holiday will end. According to statistics from the business division, from 1st July to 21st August, there were average 13,793 person-times of readers coming to Hangzhou Public Library every day, and there were 18,384 person-times on weekends, and the seats became very precious for the readers.
During the summer holiday, Hangzhou Public Library has still planned excellent, all-inclusive and multiple cultural activities for readers. According to statistics, from 1st July to 21st August, 97 activities (including lectures, exhibitions, music appreciation, reading generalization, theme salon and so on) have been successfully held, such as “intelligent parents-how the parent to foster and educate the children”, farmers’ painting show, magic performance, national music concert with the theme of “Qianjiang Charm”, “cultural and social salon: I am a Hangzhou people-interpreting of poems on the West Lake by Su Shi in his trip to take the government post”, music appreciation with the theme of “there will be a voice that can move you”-sodality of cucurbit flute fans in summer of 2011, “Wenlan story tree: story of wordless book”, it has provided services for more than 160,000 person-times.
In addition, during this summer holiday, Hangzhou Public Library was also full of “red factors”. Taking this July as the red theme month, the Library has held such activities for celebrating the 90th anniversary of CPC Founding, such as “trailblazer, singing red songs”, “red movie show in July with the theme of ‘singing red and main rhythm, enjoying the movie carnival’”, “we learn from the red heroes”, “I love the Party, red flag ruffles” and so on. Strong and red atmosphere has been created, the readers could fully feel the splendid revolutionary history and excellent revolution tradition of the Party.
