The 80th IFLA conference was held in France Lyon during 16th-22nd August, 2014. The theme of the conference was Libraries, Citizens, Societies: Confluence for Knowledge.
Such two persons (including Chu Shuqing, director of Hangzhou Public Library) attending the conference reached Lyon on 15th August. As the only Chinese representative of the standing committee of the manuscript and rare book committee of IFLA conference participated in the first work meeting of the manuscript and rare book committee and the meeting of the parallel session of the ancient book and manuscript committee, they conducted communication and exchange with David Farneth (chairman of the ancient book and manuscript committee and director of USA Log Angles Getty Research Institute), and reached common understanding of sorting, generalizing and utilizing global ancient book and manuscript resources with the modern scientific and technological means.
During the conference period, Chu Shuqing (director of Hangzhou Public Library) et al. also successively participated in such meetings as the parallel session for special people service, parallel session of the metropolitan library and so on; in addition, during the conference period, they also conducted business exchange with Barbara (director of Germany Bremen Library), conducted exchange with Yin Shousong (chief of the Public Culture Department of the Ministry of Culture). They made suggestions on how public libraries in China to achieve coordinating development and jointly participate in the international library business, and these suggestions have been fully confirmed.
During the conference period, special visits and exchanges were conducted to and with Lyon Library, Nisi Library, British Library, London Library, Birmingham Library, Dublin Library, Trinity Library and so on, and common understanding that the library is the best carrier for freely acquiring information, sharing viewpoints and sharing different intelligent achievements was reached.
