On 10-15 June, Nie ningrui, a librarian of Hangzhou Public Library was invited to participate in the Next Library 2017 held in Aarhus, Denmark.
Created by Denmark’s Aarhus Public Libraries and first presented in 2009, the NEXT LIBRARY® event is an international gathering of forward-thinking library professionals, innovators and decision-makers who are pushing boundaries and making changes that support learning in the 21st century. The purpose of this event is to look ahead and explore the continuously evolving nature of public libraries.
More than 300 people around the world attended the Next Library 2017. During the conference, Nie participated in the conference opening ceremony, keynote speeches, various interactive sessions, Dokk1 tour and etc.
For Nie, two interactive sessions about “design thinking” are the most impressive parts: Design thinking for libraries: ready for exchange? & Design thinking for libraries: LIVE . “Design thinking”, as a working methodology, helps librarians strengthen the libraries by understanding the needs of the users and engaging into the communities. It is a brand new methodology for libraries in China. The concept of design thinking became clearer for her after two sessions and the group discussions. While participating in the interactive sessions, she also took part in some interactive activities, such as World Maker Map, Wall of Interests and etc.
