The Beautiful Antiquity: Russian Old Music

“Whenever humans come together for any reason, music is there,” writes Daniel Levitin.

Russian Old Music is one of the precious forms that has been sparkling its glamour for hundreds of years. By listening to the songs, we are able to appreciate the beautiful spirit of the old times of Russia.

According to Elizaveta Vlasova, a Russian old music singer who had been learning the Russian old music for more than 10 years, very few people in Russia can still sing the original Russia old music and some of them had been going to the remote villages to collect, record and write the old music.

Some of the songs have been passed from parents to their children and they didn’t change much for centuries. There is sacred meaning behind these songs for the families and tribes as well. The Russian old music performer Elizaveta Vlasova is invited to Hangzhou public library to perform some of the old songs and she will be sharing some of the stories behind these songs as well. Let’s appreciate the beautiful antiquity of the music together!
