Hangzhou is located in the southeast of China. In September 2016, China hosted the 2016 G20 Summit in this city, by which Hangzhou was enabled to get a full attention from all around the world for the first time. By taking this chance, Hangzhou Public Library together with the local media City Express organized an exhibition of ORDINARY Hangzhou in different countries, with an emphasis put on moments in daily life of citizens of Hangzhou-what they eat, what they wear, where they live, how they commute, which, in a subtle way, carry the information of their identity and old memories.
The first station of ORDINARY Hangzhou was Municipal Library of Porto. On July 4, ORDINARY Hangzhou opened there with great success. 55 photos shot by ordinary people living in Hangzhou and a vedio of 15 minutes recording about 3 people’s daily life received a warm welcome in Porto. In the following months, ORDINARY Hangzhou will be displayed in the following libraries:
National Library of Singapore, Bremen City Library, Indianapolis Public Library, Milano Public Library, La Tete Carrée Library, Gifu City Chuo Library, The Library Hamamatsu, Taipei Public Library, Boole Library of University College Cork, Nekrasov Library, Libraries ACT and Central Library of Cape Town.
