World Book and Copyright Day was a yearly event on 23 April. To celebrate this day, Night at the Library, a terrific cultural banquet was held by Hangzhou Public Library.
Jointly held with subject libraries, Hangzhou Public Library lighted the passion of both readers and librarians. People gathered together in the library and enjoyed the Night at the Library.
Opening Ceremony:Flash Mob
Flash mob kicked off with saxophone music, and then poetry reading, instrumental performance and music performance were performed alternately. Readers, guests and librarians recited poems such as Shall I Compare Thee to an April Spring by Lin Huiyin, A Blooming Tree by Xi Murong, Sun Wukong fight Monster by Fan Jiaxin, Hangzhou Dialect Rhymes, When You are Old by William Butler Yeats and Facing the Sea with Spring Blossoms by Haizi. Audiences were obsessed in the scene and reluctant to leave.

City Life Subject Library: Taste of Life
DIY class,cooking class and flower arrangement class were experience activities held by City Life Subject Library. In this special evening, works of cloth art, DIY, horticultural activities and cooking class were displayed to audiences. Readers involved in the activities shared food in a relaxed and comfortable environment. The life concept of “Art is Life, and Life is Art” was effectively conveyed to the public.

Music Library: Appreciation of A Midsummer Night's Dream (Dance Film)
In order to commemorate the 400-year anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death, Music library played the dance film A Midsummer Night's Dream, the best-known comedy written by William Shakespeare. The renaissance and humanism thought implied in the dance film was introduced to audiences by the librarian.

Sports Branch Library: Diabolo and Taekwondo Performance
Diabolo juggling and Taekwondo performance were very welcomed by the audiences. Sports Branch Library is actively extending their services outside the library to advocate the concepts of healthy exercise and improve the citizen’s health condition and living quality.

Movie Branch Library:Appreciation of Hamlet
The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, often shortened to Hamlet, was the best-known tragedy written by William Shakespeare. The performance artist Sun Daolin dubbed for Hamlet in Chinese version. The movie was shown to audiences to commemorate Shakespare.

Buddhism Library: Reading, Savoring Tea and Enjoying Meditative Life
Members of Tianzhu Tea House set tea mat in the hall of Hangzhou Public Library. The theme of this tea party was “Tasting Zen in Tea”. Readers here may enjoyed tea ceremony, and found peace and joy from their deep heart.

Technology Branch Library:Astronomy along the Road
Technology Branch Library set hi-tech equipments along the road. Guided by specialists, readers observed the sky through the astronomical telescope, and learned more about technological achievements nowadays. The more knowledge they got, the more likely they got interested in natural science.

Theme Activity for Children: “It’s All about Love” Picture Book Contest
The final match of picture books contest co-hosted by Clover (San Ye’cao) and Hangzhou Public Library was held in Children’s area of Hangzhou Public Library. Picture books were most often designed to help children develop their reading habit and inspire their reading interest. The library invited young readers aged 5-12 to take part in the contest together with their parents.

Theme Activity for Children: Stay Overnight in Hangzhou Children’s Library
Co-organized with City Express, Hangzhou Public Library and Hangzhou Chlidren’s Library invited 11 families to set up tents and stay overnight in the library. Surrounded by books, they played games and told story in the night, and did exercise together in the morning with librarians.
