Xi’an, an ancient imperial capital and departure point of the Silk Road, enjoys splendid history and brilliant future. Xi’an Public Library has been an essential provider of books, information, and education for the public. Located at 145, Weiyang Road, Xi’an, the Library occupies an area of 30,000 square meters with a constructional area of 15,000 square meters. In October 2000, the Library was open to public, authorized as National Level II Library by Ministry of Culture in 2013.

Xi’an Public Library provides services year around, served over1,100,000 readers annually. At present, the Library holds various kinds of items, including 1,000,000 plus books, 2,600,000 e-books, 4147 subscribed periodicals, with more than 1,200 seats and 325 computers. The open-shelf service and online public access catalog (OPAC) are provided. In addition, remote access service allows readers to search items in database. Readers could apply over 20 database including Xi’an Intangible Cultural Heritage, Tianlu Lecture Room Online and Xi’an Local Literature Collection. Furthermore, readers may enjoy online reading through Digital Reading Platform, Official Application and Wechat Public Account.

RFID technology makes the Library more intelligent, which allows readers to borrow and return items by themselves. RFIDensures information flow within18 branches and 14 service sites.

Cluster information management platform built by the Library is the demonstrative program of national public culture service system.From 2015 to 2018, this platform has been putting into use in 10 district libraries and 14 service sites, scattered in communities, villages and schools. In September 2018, the platform has smoothly passed the review on the third batch of demonstrative programsin western China.

Every Saturday afternoon, public lecture “Tianlu Lecture Room” is held, and “Lotus Reading Club” is organized to promote reading among teenagers. The Library publishesTianlu Journal, Work Dictionary ofXi’an Library Association and Xi’an Reference News.

Xi’an Public Library has been authorized as provincial role model in ethical and cultural progress, Youth Patriotism Education Base and Xi’an Social Science Demonstrative Base.
