The 3rd China-CEEC Curators' Forum of Libraries Union Successfully Held in Nanjing

From October 21 to 24, the 3rd China-CEEC Curators' Forum of Libraries Union was held in Nanjing Library, China. The forum was guided by the International Exchange and Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, hosted by the Secretariat of China-CEEC Libraries Union, and organized by Nanjing Library. 45 memeber libraries, represented by 150 participants from China, Hungary, Serbia, Albania, Croatia, North Macedonia, Romania, Slovenia attended the forum.

Liu Dong, the secretary-general of the Secretariat of the China-CEEC Libraries Union, Liu Huiping, the president of the Ancient Books Preservation and Conservation Association of China, Qian Gang, deputy director of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Min Yifeng, secretary of Xuanwu district Party committee, Gao Min, director of the Literature and Art office of Jiangsu Provincial Publicity Department, Chen Jun, director of Nanjing Library delivered speeches in the opening ceremony. Chen Chao, director of Shanghai Library and vice chairman of Library Society of China, and Zhang Xu, director of the International Exchange Department of National Library of China, read out the congratulatory letter on behalf of Library Society of China and National Library of China. The opening ceremony was presided over by Dai Hongyu, secretary of the Party Committee of Nanjing Library.

Liu Dong, the secretary-general of the Secretariat of the China-CEEC Libraries Union, said in his speech that the member libraries have made concerted efforts to seek common development based on the principles of equality, mutual benefit, inclusiveness and openness over the past 5 years. Currently, there are 60 member libraries in the Union, 26 of which from China including 6 newly admitted and 34 from CEEC including 1 newly admitted. China-CEEC Libraries Union has gradually emerged in the international community and has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. At present, the Union has its column shown in the Cooperation between China and CEEC website, which has created a better environment for the future development of the Union.

Liu Huiping, the president of the Ancient Books Preservation and Conservation Association of China, Qian Gang, deputy director of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Min Yifeng, secretary of Xuanwu district Party committee, respectively delivered speeches, hoping that the China-CEEC Libraries Union would play a greater role in promoting exchange in the library field between China and CEEC to a new level. Chen Jun, the director of Nanjing Library, extended his welcome to the guests who came from afar, saying that as an important place for preserving human civilization and culture, the library should play a greater role in cultural communication. The China- CEEC Libraries Union has set a good example in this aspect. The theme of this forum is Library-Shared Benefits·Common· Progress Win-Win Cooperation, which is also an important concept much valued in Chinese culture. It is hoped that the participants will work together for the beautiful future of librarianship.
The China-CEEC Libraries Union functions as an important platform for communications and exchanges between China and CEEC in the library field. On the basis of the previous two forums, the 3rd forum further explored new direction of high-quality development of the industry in the future and made contributions to cultural cooperation among countries and regions along the "the Belt and Road". The forum included keynote speeches and roundtable discussions. Focusing the theme of Library-Shared Benefits·Common· Progress Win-Win Cooperation, participants actively engaged in discussions around topics such as Innovative Promotion of Featured Literature, Library's Diversified Service and its Limits, Preservation and Creative Utilization of Ancient Books, Building Urban Reading Spaces and Reading the History of Cities and Social Participation and High-quality Development of Libraries and strived to promote the development of library undertakings between China and CEEC.
