The Library possesses diverse and valuable collections of 200.000 library items (general reference collection; fundamental works of science and arts; outstanding editions in literature, history and philosophy; domestic and foreign rarities; doctoral and master papers; serial publication etc.) The change in scientific and educational programs at the University of Tuzla, including establishingnew colleges, made some library collections more attractive for many students and library patrons from academic environment. The valuable department of the Library is the Regional Collection Department formed in 1974, which today counts over ten thousand library units. The Regional Collection Department collects and preserves publications related to the history of development of material and spiritual culture of Tuzla and its environment.
A significant enrichment in our Library are the Foreign Departments, formed within the framework of international cultural centers, which under the intensive international cooperation at the end of the 20th century found their accommodation under the roof of the Library. The American reading room, the Austrian reading room, as well as the Iranian reading room and the Turkish reading room, with their respective program activities, meets the trend of intensified interest in foreign language studies, providing support for the cultural and educational programs launched at the Tuzla University. The activities of foreign libraries and cultural centers in our Library are result of dynamic international co-operation with related institutions from the USA, Great Britain, Malaysia, Germany, Austria, France, Russia, China, the Netherlands, Turkey, Egypt and other libraries in the region.

In 1996, the Library started to build its computerized catalog COBISS/OPAC in cooperation with Institute of Information Science IZUM Maribor, Slovenia. COBISS is an organizational model and it is used to link libraries into a unique library-information system with mutual catalogue. It has many functions of virtual library. This catalog is accessible on Internet at www.cobiss.ba, as COBISS - Virtual Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Library also lends its books to our users via computer, using COBISS system.
The future goal of our Library is to keep up with the times, educate librarians and launch new projects designed to digitize valuable collections in order to be able to exchange information, share bibliographic data and make them available for users around the world.
We believe that the new experiences in the usage of advanced computer and communication technologies will bring the Library closer to its strategic goals and will serve its community in a better and more productive way.
