On 27th November 2011, Liu Lidong (vice director of the Comprehensive Office) and Liu Yan (from the Information Team of the Theme Literature Center) of Hangzhou Public Library, went to the library of Ireland University College Cork with invitation, and conducted business communication, study and survey for 27 days.
During such survey, John FitzGerald (director of the library of Ireland University College Cork) and Claire O' Brien (from the Employee Development Division) arranged rich visit schedules for them. Liu Lidong and Liu Yan have successively conducted visit and study at several divisions of Bull Library of UCC, Brookfield Health Library, medical library of UCC, medical library of Charity University, Chancery of Cork, Library of Cork Town, Technical Research Institute of Cork, Dublin Trinity Library, Dublin National Parliament Library, Dublin National Library, chancery of Dublin City Library and Chesterbit Library, made deep understanding of structures, systems and work flows of libraries in Dublin, Cork and other places in Ireland, discussed the long-term plan for the exchange and cooperation between the Library of UCC and Hangzhou Public Library.
Meanwhile, as the exchange librarians, Liu Lidong and Liu Yan also made speeches about Hangzhou and Hangzhou Public Library to the employees of the Library of UCC, focused on introducing service concepts, business practice and future prospective of Hangzhou Public Library. Beautiful landscape and deep cultural implication of Hangzhou as well as new facilities and novel services of the new building of Hangzhou Public Library have attracted great interests from the counterparts of the Library of UCC, and many of them expressed their hope of becoming exchange librarians and paying visit to Hangzhou Public Library.
The year of 2011 was the first year for successful cooperation between Ireland UCC Library and Hangzhou Public Library. It was predicted that, Martin O’Connor from the Division of Business and Social Sciences and Cathal Kerrigan (director of Brookfield Health Library) would pay visit to Hangzhou Public Library as the exchange librarians.
