On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Ireland, Hangzhou Public Library and the Consulate General of Ireland Shanghai are co-hosting an art exhibition “Youyi Visual” at the lobby of Hangzhou Public Library from 13th October to November 8th, the launch of which took place on 13th October, to celebrate four decades of fruitful exchanges and to further strengthen Sino-Irish relations.
Present were Therese Healy, Consul General of Ireland in Shanghai, Du Shigen, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Hangzhou Municipal Government, Ruan Ying, Deputy Director of Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, TV Press, Publication and Tourism, and Ying Hui, Director of Hangzhou Public Library.
After the opening ceremony, Irish and Chinese painters were staged sharing about the similarity and differences of contemporary art in their own countries, attracting more than 200 people.
“Youyi Visual” comprises twenty pieces of art works and three poems from ten Irish contemporary artists, ranging from literal visual realism to conceptual abstraction, imbuing the exhibition with an edgy and wide vocabulary of ideas and interpretations.
