On 17th March, a bright spring day, “Chihiro and Little Doudou” picture show (a Sino-Japan cultural exchange project of Hangzhou Public Library) was opened at the Children Borrowing and Reading Center. Such Chinese and Japanese guests as Mr. Maruyama Kouichi (chief consul of Japanese Consulate in Shanghai) and Mr. Meng Tieyuan (a counsel of the Foreign Affairs Office of Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government) and so on attended the opening ceremony. Mr. Anami Koreshige (former Japanese ambassador in China) and Chu Shuqing (director of Hangzhou Public Library) made addresses respectively and expressed their best wishes.
37 pieces of works were displayed in this picture show. All of these works were created by Chihiro (with the full name of Iwasaki Chihiro), a famous painter in Japan. Most of these works were the original illustrations in the children best-seller titled Little Doudou nearby the Window. Many adult readers and children readers loving that book were attracted. Iwasaki Chihiro loved peace; she took the children as the drawing theme during her lifetime. In her pictures, she combined the Western watercolor painting and oriental traditional drawing skills, the gentle and dynamic technique was achieved, and unique style was presented. After the World War Two, with her painting brush, she prayed peace and happiness for the children and has left nearly 10,000 works to the people. Although she had passed away for 38 years, her pictures are still loved by the people now. To cooperate with the picture show, Ms. Zhupo Youzi (vice director of the Japanese Chihiro Art Museum) also gave the lecture with theme of “Little Doudou and Iwasaki Chihiro-For Peace and Happiness of the Children”, it also held the experiencing activity of “watercolor painting skills of Chihiro”. The lecture and such activity were loved greatly by the children.
The picture show would last up to 15th April. During this period, Hangzhou Public Library would also offer Little Doudou series of book recommendation activity with the theme of “education of love”, so that it can promote reading generalization of excellent children literary works and promote Sino-Japan cultural exchange.
