Dear colleagues,
China will host the 2016 Group of Twenty (G20) summit in the eastern city of Hangzhou, on Sept. 4-5, President Xi Jinping announced on Nov. 16 2015. Its theme will be "Building an innovative, invigorated, interconnected and inclusive world economy," Xi said while addressing a working lunch during the 10th G20 summit in Antalya, Turkey.
By taking this chance, Hangzhou Public Library together with a local media City Express and Overseas Chinese Fund to organize an exhibition of ORDINARY Hangzhou in different countries, with an emphasis put on moments in our daily life-what we eat, what we wear, where we live, how we commute, which, in a subtle way, carry the information of our identity and the philosophy of old times.
Hangzhou Public Library is planning to cooperate with about 10 international libraries participating this exhibition. And we do hope the people around the world could really see this authentic “Ordinary Hangzhou” though the exhibition, understanding this fast-developing modern city with the impact of its long history and profound culture.
By taking this chance, we sincerely invite your library to participate our exhibition to celebrate the city hosting 2016 Group of Twenty (G20) summit and help promoting the understanding and exchange of different countries.

Why to do it?
Hangzhou is located in the southeast of China. “Close to Shanghai”, is a phrase frequently used by the locals to introduce their hometown to foreigners. In September 2016, China will host the 2016 G20 Summit here in this city, by which Hangzhou is enabled a full attention from all around the world as its own for the first time. By taking this chance, Hangzhou Public Library together with a local media City Express organizes an exhibition of ORDINARY Hangzhou in different countries, with an emphasis put on moments in our daily life-what we eat, what we wear, where we live, how we commute, which, in a subtle way, carry the information of our identity and the philosophy of old times. All works in the forms of the image and the video are offered by ordinary people living here, with a view to rephrasing our narrative about our hometown and also being helpful to collapse the image of mysterious oriental to some extent.
