Savoring Tea in Buddhism Library

China is the homeland of tea. Chinese Tea is an aromatic beverage made from leaves of tea plants(camellia sinensis), and commonly prepared by pouring hot or boiling water over cured leaves.

Savoring tea was an absolute enjoyment. On 14 March, members of Tianzhu Tea House gathered together in Buddism Library to taste the profound Chinese tea culture.

“This is green tea!”, “This is black tea!”, “This is oolong tea!” . The attendees tasted various kinds of tea including Yunan black tea, Tie Guanyin, Pu’er tea, Long brow and Taishan green tea, and tried their best to distinguish different types of tea. The atmosphere were quite alive and the attendees not only expanded their knowledge of tea but also made new friends there. Thanks to the president of Tianzhu Tea House, who provided all tea-leaves to support the activity.

Tips: According to the different methods by which it is processed, Chinese tea can be classified into six categories:

  • Yellow: unwilted and unoxidized, but allowed to yellow
  • White: wilted and unoxidized
  • Green: unwilted and unoxidized
  • Oolong: wilted, bruised, and partially oxidized
  • Black: wilted, sometimes crushed, and fully oxidized
  • Post-fermented: green tea that has been allowed to ferment/compost
